Axis Gearing"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Introduction to Motion Axis Gearing<\/h2>\n<p>Motion Axis Gearing allows one axis to follow another axis using a certain ratio of gearing.\u00a0 \u00a0For example:\u00a0 A slave axis might follow a master axis, but at twice the speed, and cover twice the distance in a given amount of time.\u00a0 A practical application for this is two rollers that are transporting a sheet of paper or plastic.\u00a0 \u00a0You will want to maintain tension on the product.\u00a0 \u00a0By making the downstream roller a slightly higher speed than the upstream roller, you can achieve this tension.\u00a0 \u00a0 Other uses for Motion Axis Gearing (MAG) would be due to difference in the physical gearing of different pieces of equipment.<\/p><div id=\"bryce-2621201098\" class=\"bryce-afterfirst bryce-entity-placement\"><script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-8316758073402323\" crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script><ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display:block;\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-8316758073402323\" \ndata-ad-slot=\"7728240895\" \ndata-ad-format=\"auto\"><\/ins>\n<script> \n(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); \n<\/script>\n<\/div>\n<p>In this example, we will use our Virtual Axis.\u00a0 \u00a0 If you have not read up on the previous documents, be sure you have two <a href=\"https:\/\/bryceautomation.com\/index.php\/2017\/10\/25\/creating-virtual-axis\/\">virtual axis<\/a> set up.\u00a0 Also familiarize yourself with how to use <a href=\"https:\/\/bryceautomation.com\/index.php\/2017\/10\/25\/motion-direct-commands\/\">Motion Direct commands<\/a>, and how to use the <a href=\"https:\/\/bryceautomation.com\/index.php\/2017\/10\/25\/motion-axis-move\/\">MAM <\/a>command.<\/p>\n<p>Remember, if you are using physical axis instead of virtual axis, be sure to take all safety precautions.\u00a0 \u00a0This procedure will cause movement, and the movement could be unexpected.<\/p>\n<h2>Gearing the Axis<\/h2>\n<p>Our goal in this demonstration is to move VirtualAxis2 at twice the speed of VirtualAxis1.\u00a0 Make sure\u00a0 you have already downloaded and are online in run mode.\u00a0 Right-Click VirtuaAxis2, and choose &#8220;Motion Direct Commands&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Configure the Motion Axis Gearing (MAG) command as follows:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1238 lazyload\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 555px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 555\/494;\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The slave is VirtualAxis2.\u00a0 \u00a0 We are gearing this to VirtualAxis1, so that will be our master.\u00a0 The axis for this demonstration will move in the same direction.\u00a0 \u00a0Our gear ratio is 2.\u00a0 Movement will take place from that actual position of Virtual Axis1 in this example.\u00a0 \u00a0To keep things simple, our ratio format will be &#8220;Real&#8221;, which is 2 to 1.\u00a0 \u00a0Otherwise we would have to calculate the encoder counts that we want the ratio to be based on.\u00a0 \u00a0It&#8217;s a good idea to have the clutch enabled.\u00a0 \u00a0 If an actual master axis is moving when the gearing takes place the slave would accelerate very quickly, and would likely cause a position error.\u00a0 \u00a0With the clutch enabled, we can set an acceleration for the slave to catch up with the master.\u00a0 \u00a0This prevents an instantaneous lock, which would likely cause a position fault.<\/p>\n<p>Press &#8220;Execute&#8221;, and the slave axis will be geared to the master.<\/p>\n<h2>Moving the master axis<\/h2>\n<p>Next, you can go to View | Watch, and in the QuickWatch window, we can monitor the actual position of each axis before we execute the MAM command.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full command on VirtuaAxis1.\u00a0 \u00a0Right click on VirtualAxis1 to access it&#8217;s motion direct commands.\u00a0 \u00a0We will choose the MAM command.<\/p>\n<p>Configure the MAM command as be slow enough so we can see the gearing take place.<\/p>\n<p>Now, press &#8220;Execute&#8221; and watch the position of each axis.<\/p>\n<p>Here, we can see that VirtualAxis2 is moving twice as fast
