--smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 266\/300;\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Today, a new meter arrived in the mail.\u00a0 \u00a0 This is the MK-328.\u00a0 \u00a0 I&#8217;m very impressed with this meter for $17 on Ebay!\u00a0 \u00a0 The meter will test many components such as diodes, LED&#8217;s, transistors, triacs, capacitors, resistors, MOSFETS, etc.<\/p><div id=\"bryce-1917137013\" class=\"bryce-afterfirst bryce-entity-placement\"><script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-8316758073402323\" crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script><ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display:block;\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-8316758073402323\" \ndata-ad-slot=\"7728240895\" \ndata-ad-format=\"auto\"><\/ins>\n<script> \n(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); \n<\/script>\n<\/div>\n<p>At first, I was skeptical.\u00a0 \u00a0For such a low price, I was worried about the accuracy.\u00a0 \u00a0After the first few tests, though, I was very impressed.<\/p>\n<p>When buying some electronic parts on Ebay, I&#8217;m always questioning whether the parts are fake or real.\u00a0 \u00a0 Sometimes I even question whether the parts, such as MOSFETS will even work at all.\u00a0 It&#8217;s very frustrating to put a project together, then to spend a huge amount of time troubleshooting troubleshooting parts that are not meeting the required specifications.<\/p>\n<h2>LED Test<\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1464 size-medium alignleft lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/bryceautomation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/LED1-e1510176943664-159x300.jpg\" alt=\"LED Lighted\" width=\"159\" height=\"300\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/bryceautomation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/LED1-e1510176943664-159x300.jpg 159w, https:\/\/bryceautomation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/LED1-e1510176943664.jpg 511w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 159px) 100vw, 159px\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 159px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 159\/300;\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In my first test, I checked out a simple LED.\u00a0 \u00a0My meter came with a &#8220;jig&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>that I can plug in to easily test the parts.\u00a0 I placed the &#8220;Jig&#8221; on the meter, and inserted the LED.\u00a0 \u00a0Then I pressed the &#8220;TEST&#8221; button.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1465 size-medium alignright lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/bryceautomation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/LED2-e1510177092457-300x187.jpg\" alt=\"LED Results\" width=\"300\" height=\"187\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/bryceautomation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/LED2-e1510177092457-300x187.jpg 300w, https:\/\/bryceautomation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/LED2-e1510177092457-768x479.jpg 768w, https:\/\/bryceautomation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/LED2-e1510177092457.jpg 861w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 300px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 300\/187;\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It did not matter which way I inserted the LED.\u00a0 \u00a0Even though the LED is polarized, the MK-328 seemed to figure everything out just fine.<\/p>\n<p>After the test was complete, the results displayed on the screen.<\/p>\n<p>The meter correctly showed the &#8220;Cathode&#8221; was connected to pin 1 of the meter.\u00a0 \u00a0The forward voltage is 2.58 volts.\u00a0 \u00a0The meter even gave a readout of the LED&#8217;s Capacitance!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Capacitor Test<\/h2>\n<p>In this test, I removed the LED, and I inserted an electrolytic capacitor.\u00a0 \u00a0Remember Electrolytic capacitors are polarized.\u00a0 \u00a0 When I ran the test,\u00a0 the results appeared as follows:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1466 size-medium lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/bryceautomation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Capacitor-e1510177300815-300x177.jpg\" alt=\"Capacitor Test\" width=\"300\" height=\"177\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/bryceautomation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Capacitor-e1510177300815-300x177.jpg 300w, https:\/\/bryceautomation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Capacitor-e1510177300815-768x452.jpg 768w, https:\/\/bryceautomation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Capacitor-e1510177300815.jpg 858w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 300px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 300\/177;\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This was a 10 MicroFarad capacitor, and it&#8217;s reading about 10.79, which is within 10% tolerance.\u00a0 \u00a0The ESR measurement is the Equivalent Series Resistance.\u00a0 In this case, we have 1.2 Ohms.\u00a0 \u00a0The MK-328 even shows the voltage loss of .7%!<\/p>\n<h2>Transistor test<\/h2>\n<p>This was the test I was excited about.\u00a0 \u00a0 Different series of transistors have different pinouts.\u00a0 \u00a0 The transistor is difficult to see in this image, but I placed the transistor in the meter as shown.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1467 size-medium lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/bryceautomation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Transistor1-e1510177534975-224x300.jpg\" alt=\"Insert Transistor\" width=\"224\" height=\"300\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/bryceautomation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Transistor1-e1510177534975-224x300.jpg 224w, https:\/\/bryceautomation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Transistor1-e1510177534975-768x1028.jpg 768w, https:\/\/bryceautomation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Transistor1-e1510177534975-765x1024.jpg 765w, https:\/\/bryceautomation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Transistor1-e1510177534975.jpg 747w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 224px) 100vw, 224px\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 224px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 300\/200;\" \/><\/p>\n<p>As you can see, the meter correctly identified the transistor as an NPN.\u00a0 The hFE is the gain factor of the transistor.\u00a0 \u00a0In this case 217.\u00a0 \u00a0The pin (of the transistor) that I connected to Pin 1 of the meter is the Emitter, 2 is the Base, and 3 is the collector.<\/p>\n<p>For the price and capabilities of this meter, I am very pleased, and I don&#8217;t know how I ever got along without this meter in the lab!<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;
