{"id":2322,"date":"2020-03-01T13:20:59","date_gmt":"2020-03-01T13:20:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bryceautomation.com\/?p=2322"},"modified":"2020-03-01T13:21:00","modified_gmt":"2020-03-01T13:21:00","slug":"seal-and-latch-differences","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bryceautomation.com\/index.php\/2020\/03\/01\/seal-and-latch-differences\/","title":{"rendered":"Seal and Latch Differences"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Introduction to Seal and Latch Differences<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Today, we are going to discuss the Seal and Latch differences in ladder logic.\u00a0 \u00a0Basically, they do something very similar.\u00a0 \u00a0When one condition goes true, the output comes on.\u00a0 \u00a0Likewise, when a different condition changes, the output shuts off.\u00a0 \u00a0There are some differences, however, in the operation of each one, and the way we write the logic.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p><div id=\"bryce-796989338\" class=\"bryce-afterfirst bryce-entity-placement\"><script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-8316758073402323\" crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script><ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display:block;\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-8316758073402323\" \ndata-ad-slot=\"7728240895\" \ndata-ad-format=\"auto\"><\/ins>\n<script> \n(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); \n<\/script>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>To summarize,&nbsp; the main difference is that a latch is retentive, and the seal drops out during pre-scan.&nbsp; In other words, if the processor looses power, when power is returned, the seal is broken.&nbsp; &nbsp;This ensures that unlatch conditions will override the latch condition.&nbsp; This may not always be necessary for your application.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"445\" height=\"277\" data-src=\"https:\/\/bryceautomation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/latchstandard.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2334 lazyload\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/bryceautomation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/latchstandard.png 445w, https:\/\/bryceautomation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/latchstandard-300x187.png 300w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 445px) 100vw, 445px\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 445px; Keep in mind that the output that is latched or unlatched will remain in it&#8217;s last state if you power down, or place the processor into program mode.   be aware of any unexpected movement on
