Basically the firmware is the operating system for a module.   Each of your ControlLogix modules have firmware.   Your controllogix project will usually require a minimum firmware revision for each module. Be sure you take all safety precautions for this.   Do not interrupt a flash once it starts.  You could damage the module.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Find the Revision Required<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>With this in mind, we need to find the revision required for a module that we are going to replace.  To do this, open your offline project in Studio 5000.  Right-Click the module you will replace, and go to the properties.  Now that the properties window is open, you will see the revision required by the module.   In this case, I&#8217;m flashing a FlexLogix processor to the same revision the project requires (16.22).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"916\" height=\"613\" data-src=\"https:\/\/bryceautomation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/flexrev.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2583 lazyload\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/bryceautomation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/flexrev.png 916w, https:\/\/bryceautomation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/flexrev-300x201.png 300w, https:\/\/bryceautomation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/flexrev-768x514.png 768w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 916px) 100vw, 916px\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 916px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 916\/613;\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>It is important to realize that modules will generally have 3 types of keying:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Compatible Keying &#8212; Must replace with same major revision, and the minor revision must be the same or higher to guarantee compatibility.<\/li><li>Exact Match &#8212; You must flash the module to the exact revision the project requires<\/li><li>Disable Keying &#8212; This can be dangerous if the project is taking advantages of a feature that exist only in a later revision.  If keying is disabled, it might be a good idea to flash the new module to the same revision as the old module.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Flash the module<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Now that we know what revision is required, we will flash the module. Select the processor, and the revision you wish to flash the module to.
