Connect the Serial port of an L6x or earlier ControlLogix to the serial port of an SLC-500 processor.   We&#8217;ll use a NULL MODEM cable in this case.<\/p><div id=\"bryce-1784300302\" class=\"bryce-afterfirst bryce-entity-placement\"><script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-8316758073402323\" crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script><ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display:block;\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-8316758073402323\" \ndata-ad-slot=\"7728240895\" \ndata-ad-format=\"auto\"><\/ins>\n<script> \n(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); \n<\/script>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Albeit, there are faster communication protocols available, this may be the least expensive and easiest method of communication in many cases.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Overview of the SLC-500 project<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>To simplify, we&#8217;ll just use the default settings of the SLC-500. <a href=\"https:\/\/bryceautomation.com\/index.php\/2020\/08\/24\/starting-a-new-project-in-the-slc-500\/\"> Start a new project in the SLC<\/a> if you haven&#8217;t already.   Be sure your project is valid, and that you have read the I\/O Configuration.  As an illustration, we&#8217;ll look at the Channel Configuration of a default SLC-500 project. By default, only one element is available. Right click the controller, and choose &#8220;Properties&#8221;. Set up the following tags with the shown data types below.    We&#8217;ll create a timer to trigger the message instruction.  Also, we need a tag to get data from, and a control element to allow the MSG instruction to store it&#8217;s status. The timer will pulse every 100ms, and trigger the MSG instruction. This is the grey box within the message instruction.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the message configuration, specify this as a SLC typed write.   Keep in mind our goal.   We need to take data from the &#8220;ToSLC&#8221; Tag, and place that data into N7:0 in the SLC. We need to specify a path.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We separate the segments of a path by the comma.   First, specify the number 2 in the path to come out of the front port of the processor.   Then specify the ID of the SLC serial port which is 9.   Therefore, our path is 2,9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Go back to the SLC-500 software (RSLogix 500).
