Generally, they will provide protection from shorted safety circuits, and open safety circuits as well.   The safety relay can even provide protection from a welded set of contacts.<\/p><div id=\"bryce-142472392\" class=\"bryce-afterfirst bryce-entity-placement\"><script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-8316758073402323\" crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script><ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display:block;\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-8316758073402323\" \ndata-ad-slot=\"7728240895\" \ndata-ad-format=\"auto\"><\/ins>\n<script> \n(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); \n<\/script>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Undoubtedly there are many ways to connect a safety relay.   This post will show just one example.    In this case, I have an MSR138DP.  I&#8217;ve applied 24v DC power to terminals A1 (+), and A2(-).  This particular relay also has an off delay timer circuit built in.  Always perform a safety analysis of your equipment to choose the correct relay type, and the correct wiring diagram that meets your needs based on your risk assessment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"482\" height=\"560\" data-src=\"https:\/\/bryceautomation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/image-111.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3205 lazyload\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/bryceautomation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/image-111.png 482w, https:\/\/bryceautomation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/image-111-258x300.png 258w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 482px) 100vw, 482px\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 482px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 482\/560;\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Test Unit<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Prior to writing this post, I&#8217;ve put together a small test unit for the relay.   We have 2 ESTOPS.  Both of which have two normally closed contacts.   One set of contacts from an ESTOP are wired in series with one set of contacts on the second ESTOP.   Likewise with the second set of contacts.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"468\" height=\"241\" data-src=\"https:\/\/bryceautomation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/image-112.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3206 lazyload\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/bryceautomation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/image-112.png 468w, https:\/\/bryceautomation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/image-112-300x154.png 300w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 468px) 100vw, 468px\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 468px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 468\/241;\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>I&#8217;ve connected the first circuit (channel 1) to terminals S11 &amp; S12.  Likewise, I&#8217;ve wired the second set of contacts to S21 &amp; S22.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, I&#8217;ve wired a start (reset) button to S33 &amp; S34, which is normally open.  Timer Override is Nomally closed, and wired to Y39 &amp; Y40.   At last, for the feedback loop, I have two normally open switches wired in series.   I&#8217;ve connected the feedback loop to Y1 &amp; Y2.  I&#8217;ve also jumped S11 to S52.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"648\" height=\"409\" data-src=\"https:\/\/bryceautomation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/image-113.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3208 lazyload\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/bryceautomation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/image-113.png 648w, https:\/\/bryceautomation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/image-113-300x189.png 300w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 648px) 100vw, 648px\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 648px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 648\/409;\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Operation<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Once the ESTOPS are pulled, we press the start button.  As long as the Feedback loop is complete, the relay will energize.   If I loose feedback, the relay will remain energized until I press the timer override button, or press an ESTOP.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let&#8217;s walk through this operation step by step. Notice the start button lights up, but the channels have not engaged yet.
