\n<\/script>\n<\/div>\n<p>Before we start, be sure to write down the IP address of your 1756-ENBT or 1756-EN2T (or other ethernet module) \u00a0You will need that to configure the Ethernet Devices drive.<\/p>\n<h2>1) Open RSLinx Communication Server<\/h2>\n<p>RSLinx is the communication server. \u00a0 The purpose of RSLinx is to interface your laptop with your processor. \u00a0 Access RSLinx by clicking Start | All Programs | Rockwell Software | RSLinx | RSLinx classic. \u00a0If you have a shortcut on your desktop, use that to open RSLinx.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-566 aligncenter lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/bryceautomation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/rslinxopen.png\" alt=\"RSLinx Open\" width=\"198\" height=\"144\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 198px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 198\/144;\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>2) \u00a0Next, select the &#8220;Ethernet Devices&#8221; Driver<\/h2>\n<p>There are actually two options for the driver. \u00a0Use the &#8220;Ethernet Devices&#8221; Driver, or the Ethernet\/IP driver. \u00a0The Ethernet\/IP driver will browse the entire subnet to look for devices. \u00a0 The problem with this is that we loose the ability to organize our drivers effectively for different locations. \u00a0The other issue with Ethernet\/IP is that it finds only the IP address. \u00a0 It will not &#8220;Reverse Resolve&#8221; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 300\/90;\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Then, select &#8220;Ethernet Devices&#8221;, then click &#8220;Add New&#8221;. \u00a0 If you choose to use the Ethernet\/IP driver, \u00a0just verify the adapter it is using, and choose to browse the whole subnet. \u00a0 Here, though, we will be selecting the &#8220;Ethernet Devices&#8221; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 300\/131;\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Finally, verify that you are seeing your Ethernet device. \u00a0 You will see an icon of the device if it is communicating properly, and the EDS File (Electronic Data Sheet) for the device is registered. \u00a0Here is an example of where one device is communicating, and the others are not. \u00a0 In my case, the other two processors are powered down.<\/p>\n<h2>Troubleshooting<\/h2>\n<p>If your devices are not communicating, verify the cables are hooked up properly, and that you typed in the IP address correctly. \u00a0 Use the PING command at your command prompt to verify physical connectivity. \u00a0 If you can ping the device, but RSLinx does not recognize the device, chances are that RSLinx is not configured properly. \u00a0 Other issues could be that you are using an older version of RSLinx that does not recognize the hardware, or the EDS file has not been registered for the device.<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;
