IP Address with RSLinx"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Introduction to\u00a0Assigning IP Address with\u00a0RSLinx (Static IP)<\/h2>\n<p>There are two common ways to assign an IP address to an Ethernet module in the ControlLogix chassis: \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/bryceautomation.com\/index.php\/2017\/05\/27\/bootp-server\/\">BootP<\/a>, or RSWho. \u00a0A third way of assigning an IP address only works if you are using the subnet of 192.168.1.x. \u00a0 On newer modules, you will have a thumb wheel to dial in the last octet.<\/p><div id=\"bryce-2056586210\" class=\"bryce-afterfirst bryce-entity-placement\"><script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-8316758073402323\" crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script><ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display:block;\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-8316758073402323\" \ndata-ad-slot=\"7728240895\" \ndata-ad-format=\"auto\"><\/ins>\n<script> \n(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); \n<\/script>\n<\/div>\n<p>When you are\u00a0Assigning IP Address with RSLinx, you must have communication to at least one other module in the chassis. \u00a0 You can use an <a href=\"https:\/\/bryceautomation.com\/index.php\/2017\/05\/26\/rslinx-ethernet-driver\/\">Ethernet driver<\/a> if there is another Ethernet module in the chassis. \u00a0Another communication path would be through a USB port, or through the <a href=\"https:\/\/bryceautomation.com\/index.php\/2017\/05\/26\/rslinx-df1-driver\/\">DF1 Driver.<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Step 1: \u00a0Determine what the IP address of the new module should be.<\/h2>\n<p>Do not guess at what the IP address should be of a replacement module. \u00a0 \u00a0If the old module still powers up, the IP address of the old module should scroll across the front. \u00a0If it is totally dead, we will have to refer to other documentation. \u00a0 \u00a0 You might have a spreadsheet in your plant that lists all the IP addresses. \u00a0 Another way to get the IP address to use for a replacement module is in Studio 5000. \u00a0 If the project is documented properly, you can open the offline file. \u00a0Next, right-click on the Ethernet module that you are replacing, and go to &#8220;properties&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-942 lazyload\" --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 698\/335;\" \/><\/p>\n<p>You will also need to know the subnet mask, and any other information that needs to be entered, such as a gateway, and DNS servers. \u00a0 The most common configuration is a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0. \u00a0Then, the gateway, DNS, and host are left blank. \u00a0 If you are unsure of what your plant uses,\u00a0consult your plant standards, or system administrator. \u00a0 Another method would be to follow steps 2 and 3 below to <strong>read<\/strong> the information off the <strong>OLD<\/strong> module. \u00a0 Then replace the module, and follow steps 2 and 3 again to <strong>assign<\/strong> the information to the <strong>NEW<\/strong> module.<\/p>\n<h2>Step 2: \u00a0Find the Ethernet module in RSWho<\/h2>\n<p>Once you have communication with a module in the chassis, you can drill through the module to the backplane. \u00a0 \u00a0Then, drill across the backplane. \u00a0 You will see the Ethernet module that you need Configuration&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Step 3: \u00a0 Assign the IP Address<\/h2>\n<p>Next, click on the &#8220;Port Configuration&#8221; tab:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" &#8220;Apply&#8221; then &#8220;OK&#8221;, then look at your module in the chassis. \u00a0 The IP should be scrolling across the alphanumeric display.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Note: \u00a0 If all of the fields are &#8220;Grayed out&#8221;, be sure you selected &#8220;Static&#8221;.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Warning! \u00a0 An incorrect IP address can be very disastrous! \u00a0 Be sure you
